Withdraw my NHI from NCCU
If you are enrolled in NHI via NCCU, your coverage will be effective until the end of August (for spring semester graduates) or the end of February (for fall semester graduates). If you leave school before the end of August or February, to ensure continued coverage under NHI during this transitional period, the OIC staff WON’T process your NHI withdrawal unless they receive your withdrawal request. If you’ve decided to leave Taiwan or have successfully enrolled your NHI via another insured unit, upon your request, the OIC will withdraw your NHI and, if applicable, issue a fee refund. In this case, your NHI coverage through the university will terminate in the next month after you submit your request. The excess insurance fee will be returned to your Chunghwa Post/First Bank account. Therefore, don’t close your accounts just yet. It will take 30 working days for the money to transfer to you.
Continue your NHI while staying in Taiwan
If you plan to stay in Taiwan to seek employment or for other purposes, you can maintain NHI coverage for a monthly fee of NTD 826, payable to the district administrative office of your residence. Please follow the instructions below:
A. If you are holding a job-seeking ARC:
Please bring your ARC and NHI card to the district office near you to enroll in NHI. They will charge you every two months.
B. If you already have a full-time job in Taiwan:
According to government regulations, your employer is required to insure you on your first day of work.
How about my NHI if I leave Taiwan?
You will no longer have NHI coverage once your ARC expires or is revoked. While still holding a valid ARC, if you decide to leave Taiwan for more than 6 months, remember to suspend your NHI, or the NHI administration will continue charging you. Lastly, if leaving Taiwan without extending your ARC is your situation, it's advisable to retain your NHI card for future use, especially if you may return for further study or work. Note that if your NHI card is lost, you will need to pay a new card production fee of NT$200 when requesting a replacement.
