IMPIS is committed to creating a learning environment that is respectful and safe for all IMPIS members. We believe that such an environment is not only necessary for all members to work productively and thrive in their individual path, but is also intrinsic to the raison d'être of the IMPIS program – to embrace diversity in a globalized world. Therefore, we expect all students to adhere to the fundamental norms of academic life.

Expectations of Conduct

Expectations of student conduct apply to all venues associated with classes in the IMPIS program, including classrooms and electronic discussions. They also apply to interactions among and between students, faculty, staff, and other members of the NCCU community in and around the NCCU campus.

General expectations of student conduct are founded on the National Chengchi University Student Award and Penalty Regulations. Those regulations state: “As an institution of higher education to provide environment for academic research and pursuit of knowledge and certain social services, the University has the obligation to guide student conduct and performance as well as exercise and maintain discipline to help develop the qualities of inquisitiveness, academic integrity, independence, and respect for others in students.”

Based on these principles, students are expected to make the IMPIS community a tolerant and inclusive place characterized by civility and consideration for others, and to meet high ethical and professional standards for the quality of their academic work.

IMPIS expects that all students will familiarize themselves with NCCU policies governing behavior and disciplinary action, especially those pertaining to academic dishonesty, sexual and racial harassment, verbal or physical assaults, disturbance of public order, etc. Because students are expected to show good judgement and use common sense at all times, not all types of misconduct and behavioral standards are specifically mentioned here or in the NCCU regulations.

Procedures for Disciplinary Cases

  1. Student appeals and arbitration procedures
Students who believe that disciplinary action, other measures, or resolutions of the University are illegal or improper which cause damage to their rights and interests may file an appeal to the Student Appeals and Arbitration Committee in accordance with the provisions of these measures. Please follow the National Chengchi University Student Appeals and Arbitration Procedure and the National Chengchi University Student Appeal Handling Guidelines.
  2. Faculty discipline suggestion procedures
Concerned teaching or administrative faculty members may provide relevant information, fill out the discipline suggestion form (via iNCCU platform), notify the class teacher, the Chair of respective department, institute and program, and the Office of Student Affairs, and report the case to the Student Award and Penalty Committee. The penalizing measures will be announced once the Student Award and Penalty Committee approves and the President of the University ratifies.
  3. Sexual harassment appeals procedures
Please note that cases involving sexual misconduct complaints will follow the National Chengchi University Sexual assault, Sexual Harassment Investigation Procedures and will be investigated and ruled by the Gender Equity Committee.

Possible Outcomes

The Student Appeals and Arbitration Committee, Student Award and Penalty Committee or the Gender Equity Committee would start investigations once they receive the complaints and make resolutions afterwards. The committee's decisions are governed by NCCU’s policies. They may take the following penalizing measures: warnings, minor demerits, major demerits, expulsion, and deprivation of student status.
